One of the reasons I feel like I am really finding myself in my college career and figuring out my true passions as a future music educator, is because I chose to separate myself from my high school experiences and my old high school itself. I was so attached to Fairmont and to Eleventh Hour for so long. For a little while, it did give me confidence and helped me learn about what music means to me as an individual. Afterall, being apart of that group is what really sparked it in me to pursue a music career. And for that I will be forever thankful. However, eventually, I figured out that holding onto my high school experiences really stood in the way from what I could open myself up to at UD and other experiences I could have, people I could meet, and things I could learn about myself…and it’s nice to look back, smile at memories, but know that I don’t feel the need to go to every concert, participate in every alumni event, etc to prove myself worthy of being a musician or to feel satisfied.

Others, especially if you’re majoring in music ? Should do the same.
