Yesterday was even better than the first day! We spent the first half of the day going on a bus tour, then a guided walking tour, visiting the Schönbrunn Palace and learning so much history. Even stood in the room where Mozart performed for the very first time as a child prodigy!
After that, Chorale performd a mini concert on the palace steps, with mulitple tourists passing by and stopping to hear us sing. A huge group of people from China wanted our autographs and pictures with us. It was like we were celebrities!
We also sang in an amazing cathedral earlier in the day that was in the cemetary where mulitple famous composers and musicians are buried. The sound was incredible. Check out the facebook link above to get a listen. The amazing acoustics didn’t hurt :) We visited Beethoven’s grave, Strauss, and many more! For lunch, we went to a buffet place and I experienced wien schnitzel for the first time. It’s a battered slice of veal or port. My slice was veal. I feel bad for eating a baby cow, but it’s all part of the experience. I have to say, it was quite good. You squeeze lemon all over it, and it was served with roasted potatoes.
After we finished a long day, it was free time galore! A group of us headed to downtown Vienna for some exploring. We ened up eating at Pizza/Pasta restaurant. Pizza should be called something different in America, because Pizza in Europe tastes completely different, and 100% times better. I ate an entire Spinach and pesto pizza by myself. No shame.
Then after our bellies were full, we decided to head to a cocktail bar. The bar was down in the basment of the building, tucked away, and the group of us had the place pretty much to ourselves. There was good music, fun disco lighting, and comfy couches. I drank a whiskey sour, that was SO GOOD. We stayed there til about midnight just laughing and chit chatting and have a great time, then headed back to the hotel via tube (subway).
Today should bring more adventures! Our last day in Vienna!
Starting at 1 pm Dayton time, me along with the rest of Chorale, were traveling from airport to airport; Dayton to Chicago to Frankfurt Germany, to Vienna Austria! I can’t get over how many TREES are here. It’s so green and there are mountains and rolling hills everywhere. The weather is rain off and on, but sunny too. High 60’s = comfortable for me at least.
That’s where we are currently. I’m snuggled up in this cute little hotel room, exhausted from a long two days of traveling.
When we arrived to Vienna, it was straight to the hotel for a quick freshen up. Shortly after, we all caught the subway to head into town. The subway station is literally right next door to our hotel room, so it was nice to have such easy access. Our “tour manager” (Yes we have one of those!), is super nice and really wants us to have a good time, you can tell.
We took the subway and got off at this little alley street, and ate at this restaurant called “Bermuda Baru”. Pretty sure I had the best meal of my life…not to mention the BEEEEER! I don’t even like beer, but this stuff was amazing.
For dinner we had chicken breast, veggies, a vinegrette salad (homemade dressing of course with roasted ham throughout the salad, this croissant mashed potatoes side dish with a cream sauce, and chocolate cake with whipped cream for dessert. Perfect portions, perfect taste, perfect evening.
Then right after dinner, it was back to the hotel for the night, where I took a long hot shower and stayed in the for the night to rest up for tomorrow! :)
So far, so good. This trip has yet to be even more incredible than it already is.
